Introduction :
The role of RWS&S Department is to Providing drinking water needs of 49 rural mandals with population of 29,04,009 (2011 census) covering 13 Assembly Constituencies.
There are 4 Revenue Divisions with Head Quarters at Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nuzvid and Vijayawada. The District consists of 49 Revenue Mandals and 970 Gram Panchayats in the District.
The Department of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation is vested with the responsibility to supply safe drinking water and sanitation in the rural areas. The supply of drinking water in the rural areas spread over 2486 habitations. Government has created hand pumps 11088 , 2320 PWS/MPWS/DP Schemes. The CPWS Schemes itself to cater 847 habitations with a population of 990791 over the years for supply of drinking water.
